College basketball is officially back, and Utah teams had a solid opening day. No. 25 BYU picked up a big win against Ohio State in a game that stayed close for most of the night before the Cougars pulled away late. Rob Wright put on a show, scoring 33 points and recording the third 30-point game of his career. New Syracuse transfer Tyler Betsey also shot the ball well, while Bruce Branch had a slow but decent first college game. BYU will look to keep things going when it faces Omaha on Friday. The Utah Utes also opened their season with a win, escaping Long Beach State after coming back from a 17-point deficit. Trey Campbell had a great Utah debut with 20 points and 8 rebounds, while Jackson Holcombe also had a good game. It was a much-needed season-opening win for the Utes.

Utah Valley also took care of business against Western Colorado, getting a solid win behind Isaac Davis, who scored 22 points, and Dominick Nelson, who added 16. With a lot of roster turnover, it will be interesting to see how the Wolverines come together as the season goes on. Utah State handled Idaho State at home in Logan, giving the Aggies a win to start their season. On the other side, Utah Tech fell to New Mexico in The Pit. The Trailblazers were only down by a few points at halftime, but New Mexico eventually pulled away to get the win. Overall, it was a solid opening day of college basketball for Utah, with four teams picking up wins and plenty of basketball still ahead was a solid opening day of college basketball for Utah, with four teams picking up wins and plenty of basketball still ahead.
