Walker Kessler Heads to L.A. as Jazz Cash In on Future Picks

The Los Angeles Lakers have finally solved one of their biggest roster needs, acquiring Walker Kessler from the Utah Jazz in a blockbuster deal. According to reports, the Lakers are sending Utah unprotected first-round picks in 2031 and 2033 along with first-round pick swaps in 2028 and 2030. Kessler will also sign a four-year, $130 million contractwith Los Angeles.

For the Lakers, this is an all-in move. They’ve been searching for a true rim-protecting center, and Kessler gives them exactly that. His shot-blocking, rebounding, and lob-finishing ability make him an ideal fit alongside Luka Dončić, while also giving Austin Reaves another reliable pick-and-roll partner.

From Utah's perspective, this deal is about maximizing value. The Jazz add a massive haul of draft capital, including unprotected first-round picks in 2031 and 2033 along with first-round pick swaps in 2028 and 2030. Those assets give the front office tremendous flexibility whether it's selecting young talent, packaging picks in future trades, or positioning the franchise for its next major move.

Winner: Both teams. The Lakers get the starting center they've been chasing for years and strengthen their playoff/championship hopes, and the Jazz get back picks after losing some in the JJJ trade.
